Funky Friends Soft Toy Pattern - Kiri Kiwi
This cute little Kiwi Bird is named after the famous New Zealand opera singer Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. I think her mum is hoping she will sing beautifully when she grows up but so far she can only squawk! Kiwis, are rather odd birds because they cannot fly! (they have wings but they are tiny and useless), they are about the size of a chicken but their eggs are 6 times bigger, and they have nostrils at the end of their beaks!
Kiwi are flightless birds endemic to New Zealand of the order Apterygiformes. The five extant species fall into the family Apterygidae and genus Apteryx. Approximately the size of a domestic chicken, kiwi are the smallest ratites (which also include ostriches, emus, rheas, cassowaries and the extinct elephant birds and moa). Wikipedia
